In 2011, the SDW BC held a competition with the technical and professional participation of the Ochsenhausen forestry office. The content of this competition was to find the tree with the highest volume in the district. The tender stipulated that the owners of the 3 most powerful trees would be awarded a prize. The volume determination, which was the most difficult thing for the evaluation of the hoped-for applications, could be arranged with the University of Forestry in Rottenburg. The student in charge of this (Uwe Schütz) took on the on-site assessment and the preparation of the final report as his final examination work. He received special praise and a corresponding evaluation from his professor Rainer Wagelaar. Roped, he climbed into the trees to determine their dimensions.
The following 3 winners were determined:
1st place: Krumbach oak in the Fürstenwald Ochsenhausen- wood mass 54.37 VFDmR, height 36.4 m, crown diameter 22.70 m, tree circumference 5.81 m, diameter 1.85 m
2nd place: Abbess oak in the Heiligkreuztal forest - wood mass 52.84 VFDmR, height 34.6 m, crown diameter 23.80 m, tree circumference 5.89 m, diameter 1.87 m
3rd place: Castle Park plane tree in Warthausen Castle - wood mass 49.90 VFDmR, height 35.7 m, crown diameter 25.80 m, tree circumference 4.92 m, diameter 1.57 m
A total of 20 trees were evaluated. More details can be found in the following final brochure.
