The Siq (Petra)

Highlight (Segment) • Canyon

The main entrance to ancient Petra is through the Siq, a narrow, 1.2 km long gorge in the sandstone formation. The riverbed of Wadi Musa once ran here; this can lead to seasonal flash flooding in winter, then as now. To contain the danger, the Nabataeans built a comprehensive water management system, which has been partially repaired in recent decades to minimize the risk of flash floods after heavy rain in the region.
In the last section of the gorge ‘Al-Khazneh’ (The Treasury) becomes visible. This is Petra's most famous attraction.

Al-Khazneh (The Treasury)

Highlight • Historical Site

Arriving after a journey of about 1 km in the already wonderful Siq and seeing the Treasury appear is like traveling back in time. Leave absolutely early in the morning (the site opens at 6.30 in winter) to avoid the crowds that dominate for the rest of the day

Al-Deir (The Monastery)

Highlight • Historical Site

Mighty, massive and one of the absolute highlights of Petra. Even though the path to the monastery is full of steps and strenuous, it is worth it. The sandstone building Ad Deir is one of the largest structures in Jordan's rock city, is exceptionally well preserved and simply impressive.

The Siq (Petra)

Highlight • Gorge

The main entrance to ancient Petra leads through the Siq, a narrow, 1.2-kilometer (745-mile) long gorge in the sandstone formation. The Wadi Musa riverbed once ran here; this can lead to seasonal flash floods in winter, both then and now. To mitigate this danger, the Nabataeans built a comprehensive water management system, which has been partially repaired in recent decades to minimize the risk of flash floods after heavy rains in the region.

July 19, 2023,Durch Petra bis zum Ad-Dier-Kloster und Abstecher zum Opferplatz und Obelisken
Sturdy shoes required for Petra sightseeing. The paths are often sandy.
It is about 3-4 kilometers from the entrance to the treasury. Continue slightly downhill to the girls' temple and from there to the monastery there are about 900 more steps uphill.
The steps to the obelisk and the place of sacrifice are also strenuous.

Finally "Petra", a long-held wish comes true. Thanks to our guide, we were able to find out that Petra is much more than a treasure house and royal tombs. If you take the approximately 300 steps to the place of sacrifice, you will see beautiful gorges, wonderful play of colors in the rocks and always breathtaking views. You shouldn't miss …

A wonderful day in Petra, which we made full use of to see as much as possible. After the "usual" things like the gorge, the treasury and the royal tombs, we visited the monastery, which had almost 900 steps - in the rain (the first this year) and a brief hailstorm. Then we went on the Farasa Trail to see …

Walking through petta was breathtaking and wouod highly recommended
Very impressive. Always new impressions. It's crazy who immortalized everything here. And not just the treasury that everyone knows from TV, but also the monastery, which is another 800 steps higher

I actually wanted to start recording from the restaurant in the middle of the facility where we had lunch, but unfortunately forgot it first.

Day visit to the archaeological site of Petra, one of the highlights of a trip to Jordan. Absolutely not to be missed, despite the crowds and contradictions of such a tourist site. The Treasury, the Monastery and the tombs of the Nabatean kings are wonderful. Take a full day and leave early in the morning to avoid the rush
