Pampow Village Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The church village of Pampow was first mentioned in 1265. The current church is a red brick building in neo-Gothic style. It was built between 1896 and 1898 according to designs by the church building councillor Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel.
The four-bay nave with stepped buttresses is joined by a polygonal choir apse with stronger supporting pillars, and a small sacristy is attached to the south side.
The square tower with its copper pointed roof rises 42 m high,

only the bell by the Rostock founder Johann Valentin Schultz

from 1781 was retained from the previous building.

The large, two-part, pointed-arch choir windows with the stepped reveals have a round window enclosed in the arch, which is missing from the nave windows. Instead, there are small arched windows in pairs in the bays, flanked by uniform plaster panels in the second row above the large windows, which serve to illuminate the galleries. The interior of the nave is spanned by a wooden ceiling structure. The galleries on the north and south walls are mounted on brick round columns, and the organ, built by Marcus Runge in 1898, stands on the junction of the two galleries on the west side. In the vaulted choir apse there is a brick altar table with a carved back wall from which a crucifix with a corpus protrudes; at the base there are circular symbols of the four evangelists and the symbols of Christ (Α&Ω, lamb, PX). The wooden pulpit with spiral staircase stands on four wooden feet and a foot also made of bricks on the southern triumphal arch.

Across from it is a cast iron stove.

In the nave in front of it is a baptismal font made of red sandstone.

The vaulted ribs in the choir are decorated with tendril painting, the vaulted compartments are plastered, otherwise all the walls are made of red brick.

Together with the uniform wooden furnishings, the ceiling construction and

the pews, the interior appears very closed and harmonious.

The listed, three-storey corner building on Grosse Strasse with its striking balcony and the articulating pilasters with flowery capital decorations and the high cornice is decorated with a frieze with triglyphs.
It was built in 1909 for the wealthy merchant G. Köpcke, who also had this documented by a cartouche on the facade. Style elements of Greek temples and hints of Art Nouveau are recognizable.
A smaller two-story house was demolished earlier.
The house was renovated as part of the urban development program around or after 2000.
