Nieuwe Tolbrug (Kippenbrug) Voorburg

Highlight • Bridge

The Nieuwe Tolbrug in the Dutch town of Voorburg (also known as Kippenbrug) is a drawbridge over the Vliet from the year 1891/1892. During construction, the bridge was designed as a fixed bridge. In 1919 the bridge was converted into a drawbridge. The bridge is a national monument.

The bridge is located opposite the Drievliet family park next to the point where the Vliet to Leiden, the Haagvliet and the Delftse Vliet meet. The New Toll Bridge can only be used by pedestrians. The narrow passage width of 7.50 meters requires navigation skills from the inland skippers sailing from the Haagvliet towards Leiden. On summer days the bridge is popular with the local swimming youth. (Source: Wikipedia)

Hoekenburg Manor and Drawbridge

Highlight • Monument

In 1632 there was already a country estate called “Hooghenburch”. In 1684 Hooghenburch was bought by the cloth merchant Johannes Mol. He gave it the name Hoekenburg because the property is on the corner of Haagvliet and Vliet. In 1809 the old country estate was demolished and commissioned by A.F. and A.H. today's country house was built. Thorbecke, family of the later statesman Thorbecke. In 1828 EsquireHendrik Johan acquired Caan Hoekenburg.

Delftsche Vliet Canal

Highlight • River

The Delftsche Vliet is a canal with a length of 4.6 kilometers between Delft and Rijswijk, and is part of the Rijn-Schie Canal, which forms the connection between the Oude Rijn near Leiden and Overschie. This connection partly follows the course of the Corbulo Canal, the connection between the Rhine and the Meuse that the Romans built in the first century.
In the middle of the 12th century, the connection was dug between Delft and the old canal, which ran to the current location of the Hoornbrug: the Delftse Vliet. The Delftse Vliet was widened from 1891 to 1894. The section from Delft to Overschie is called the Delftsche Schie.

Oostpoort, Delft

Highlight • Monument

Only one of the original 8 gates remaining. Around 1840 all gates were demolished. Fortunately, the East Gate was in a corner, not in the way and could remain standing. From the other side of the water you have a great view of Delft with the Oostpoort and the Nieuwe- and Oude Kerk in the background
