Bad Karlshafen is beautifully situated on the Weser River bend and marks the border triangle of Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, and Hesse. Furthermore, Bad Karlshafen is actually a town for refugees. It was founded in 1699 by Landgrave Karl of Hesse as a planned town to accommodate Protestant religious refugees, later known as the Huguenots. This is why, when you look at the city map today, you can see that the city center is divided into grid squares.
