Embark on the Mow Cop, The Old Man of Mow and Limekiln Wood loop, a moderate hike that takes you through diverse landscapes. You will cover 5.8 miles (9.3 km) and gain 702 feet (214 metres) in elevation, typically completing the route in about 2 hours and 39 minutes. As you walk, you will encounter open fields and ancient woodlands, with the striking 65-foot (20-meter) high rock formation known as The Old Man of Mow serving as a memorable landmark along your journey.
Before you set out, be aware that some parts of the trail, especially around Mow Cop, can be quite steep. The path can also become muddy after rain, so wearing sturdy hiking boots is highly recommended for your comfort and safety. Parking is generally available near the starting point, making it convenient to access this popular route.
This loop offers more than just a good workout; it provides expansive panoramic views from Mow Cop across the Cheshire Plain and Staffordshire countryside. On a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of the Welsh mountains in the distance. The route also guides you through Limekiln Wood, a beautiful semi-natural ancient woodland, adding a touch of historical nature to your hiking experience.
