The Saint-Martin du Canigou Abbey, founded in the year 1001 by a Count of Cerdagne, is located in the heart of the Canigou massif, on a 1,094 meter high rocky outcrop over the Cady valley.
This oasis of peace is nestled in beautiful, peaceful and green surroundings, and can only be reached on foot from the village of Casteil, after a climb of approximately 40 minutes.

The abbey in the Pyrenees, situated on a rocky outcrop, can only be reached via a long footpath. It was consecrated in 1009. It took on its current form at the beginning of the 20th century, after it had largely fallen into disrepair, having been abandoned by the last monks since 1783. The early form of the Romanesque style, which has been preserved here with two basilicas one on top of the other, is interesting.
