Hiking
Landgrave Albrecht of Thuringia besieged the castle in 1291, and it was probably damaged in the process. In 1301 Otto von Bilstein sold the castle to Landgrave Heinrich I of Hesse. In the following years it was pledged to various noble families.
In the years 1559 to 1562 the castle was repaired, in 1594 it was demolished after it had become dilapidated again. Today only parts of the castle are left.
