In 1956, one editor of the Saarbrücker newspaper, Theo Plettenberg, told the readers that on April 1, under the so-called "Biereiche" in the clearing in Kammerforst Merzig, a box of beer would be deposited for all walkers. The April Fools' Day became a festival celebrated every year in the forest clearing - the Biereichenfest. If the Biereichenfest was previously held by the Saarfürst Brewery, it will now take place under the direction of the Brotdorfer Verein "Die Strammen e.V.".
