Lac Noir is known for its dark colour, which creates a mirrored image of the surrounding dense pine forests on a windless day. The north end of the lake has a parking area and a great place to launch boats, as well as the trailhead for the Sentier de l'Orignac Centre. The area is also known for an abundance of wild, edible boreal plants. The acidic, rocky soil of the boreal forest surrounding Lac Noir produces carpeted sections of low-bush wild blueberries.
