The Great Church of Haarlem, officially the Nieuwe Kerk (Grote of Sint-Bavokerk), is a striking landmark in the Dutch city of Haarlem. The house of worship dominates the cityscape with its stately tower and offers insights into a thousand-year history.

Historically, the church looks back on a turbulent construction and usage history. The current building largely dates from the late Middle Ages and the early modern period, with Gothic and Baroque elements reflecting its style through the changing eras. The imposing interior impresses visitors with its high vaults, colorful windows, and a venerable silence that invites lingering.

The church is considered one of the most unusual church buildings erected specifically for Protestant worship in the Republic of the Netherlands after the Reformation.

Jacob van Campen, a Dutch architect and artist of the Golden Age, was the creator of this atmospheric church. For the construction, he was inspired by the Temple in Jerusalem. This is also reflected in the facade, which resembles a (temple) fortress. The classicist church fits well into the streetscape amidst the picturesque and beautiful streets. The tower of St. Anne's Chapel, which previously stood at this location, has been preserved.
