In the village of Vaikšteniai (Trakai district municipality, Rūdiškės eldership), on July 29, 2006, to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Medininkai massacre, a memorial cross was unveiled to the defender of Lithuanian independence, senior policeman Algirdas Kazlauskas (1949–1991), who was born in this village and killed on July 31, 1991 at the Medininkai border control post. This oak cross is dedicated to the memory of Algirdas Kazlauskas as a local resident and one of the seven victims of the Medininkai tragedy. The cross was made by the craftsmen of the woodworking company UAB “Alvima” Vidas Vasiliauskas and Stanislovas Tichavičius.
