The Crater Lake Boatshed is a historic alpine structure that sits on the northernmost shore of Crater Lake. It is a highly photographed and slightly less busy than the famous Dove Lake Boatshed nearby. It was built in 1940 by the Cradle Mountain Reserve Board entirely from locally sourced native wood, utilising planks and shingles draped over rugged bush poles. The boatshed originally housed wooden, tourist-ready rowboats crafted from native Huon Pine until about 1968. Today it still stands, but is empty, a relic of the past and a historical photo opportunity.
