Here, at the foot of the citadel, lies the spiritual origins of Namur. According to tradition, Saint Materne preached here as early as the 4th century and laid the foundation for Christianity in the city. Notre-Dame Church, a significant Marian shrine, later arose on this site. Information boards tell the story of Namur as a "Marian city" and explain the origin of its name. A short stop with great historical and symbolic significance.
