The PR1 is open again - but only in one direction from Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo. This is also good, as the path is partially narrow and 'oncoming traffic' would then be very dangerous. Anyone who has bought a suitable ticket can go up to the Stairway to Heaven. There, you will encounter many people coming towards you, so caution is advised and you must not be afraid of heights!
