    The Roman milestone in Cerignola, which was originally erected on the ancient Via Traiana, now part of the UNESCO World Heritage, marks the distance of 81 Roman miles, about 120 km, from Benevento in the section between Ordona (Herdoniae) and Canosa. Today, the limestone pylon stands in the middle of the city at the corner of Corso Cramsci and Via Osteria Ducale.

    Did you know that there were also Romans in Cerignola? The milestone LXXXI (81st mile) marks part of the Via Traiana, which takes its name from the emperor Marco Ulpius Trajan; these, in 109 AD, for the Benevento-Brindisi route abandoned the old route of the Regina Viarum for routes already in use in the Tavoliere delle Puglie, renaming it Via Traiana.
