The groynes are located near the municipality of Lietzow, at the narrowest point between the Großer and Kleiner Jasmunder Bodden. While groynes usually serve coastal protection on the open Baltic Sea, they have a somewhat more specific function here in the ecosystem of the Bodden landscape.
