The crowning glory of Ruhpolding's ecclesiastical buildings and the landmark in the valley of the White Traun River is the Catholic parish church of St. George, built in the Rococo style from 1738 to 1758. Its plans were drawn up by the Elector's court architect, Johann Baptist Gunetzrhainer. The "Ruhpolding Madonna" on the right side altar, a figure from the early Romanesque period (13th century), is famous. The forerunners of St. George once stood high above the Bergfriedhof cemetery.

The most important sculpture in the Catholic parish church of Sankt Georg in Ruhpolding is the so-called Ruhpolding Madonna, an enthroned statue of Mary with a baby Jesus from the period 1220/30. It is kept in a golden niche in the right side altar. Source: Wikipedia
