A RADOM (English: radome, a portmanteau of radar dome) is a closed protective cover that protects antennas for measurements (e.g. radar antennas) or for data transmissions (e.g. microwave antennas) from external mechanical and chemical influences such as wind or rain. It is also referred to as a "radar dome".

The radome on the Wasserkuppe is unique in the Rhön region; nothing makes the Rhön region as distinctive as the radome on the Wasserkuppe. It is a landmark, a symbol, a cultural monument, a center of aviation, and also a tourist destination. The radar dome has long since ceased to serve airspace surveillance; instead, the radome is now a cultural monument and a reminder of the Cold War and its associated history.
