Mallorca, the largest Balearic island, has two completely different faces. There are the coastal stretches where hotel blocks are lined up close together, with supermarkets, bars, and restaurants right next to them. And then there are other places where the sea, rather than the flow of tourists, determines the appearance of the coast with its grottos, rocky outcrops, and small sandy coves. No bars, no discos, no telephones; only the sound of the waves provides the background noise.
