In 1225, after the death of the last direct descendant of the Count of Dabo-Eguisheim, the Ferrettes became the next heirs. However, the Bishop of Strasbourg claimed this inheritance, went to war, and raided the castles of Haut-Eguisheim. The then ruler, Henry, King of Germany, allied himself with the Count of Ferrette, and in 1226-1227, a tower was built on the site of the lower courtyard to prevent access to the castle. Peace reigned again. The Bishop retained Dabo-Eguisheim Castle, and the Weckmund reverted to the Count of Ferrette.
