Altrathen Castle is the ruins of a rock castle on a cliff near Rathen in Saxon Switzerland, Saxony. Its location on an exposed rocky outcrop above the Elbe Valley enabled military security and comprehensive control of the trade routes along and on the Elbe. The origins of Altrathen probably date back to the 11th century.
