The name "Drielse Kermis" refers to the town of Kerkdriel, and the fair has been an integral part of community life for centuries. The name Kerkdriel itself was first mentioned around 815 or 816 as Driela, which refers to three residential areas (Kerkdriel, Velddriel, and Hoenzadriel) or a three-way intersection, along with a deciduous forest on a riverbank, according to the Municipality of Maasdriel.
