Here in Christophstal on the Forbach river, there was a mint for silver coins and medals from 1622 to 1628. After several other uses, the building complex was used as a file-cutting workshop, which existed until 2010.
Since 2017, the former file-cutting workshop has been owned by the town of Freudenstadt.

The buildings and the explanatory information boards are reminiscent of the time when coins were minted in Christophstal 400 years ago – at that time, Freudenstadt was one of Württemberg's three minting towns, alongside Stuttgart and Tübingen. The Württemberg duke had coins minted from the silver ore that the miners brought up from the mines.
