The construction of the first stone wall around the city, a visible distinction between village and town, is attested for 1386. Three city gates and seven towers shaped the medieval cityscape. In the middle of the 16th century Rodach was girded with a stronger ring wall. The stones came from the demolition of the monastery building on the St. Georgenberg.
The only surviving gate tower is the copper storm.
