    Mountain biking

The starting point for both the Town Run and Talking Tree trails (or, depending on who you talk to, the whole thing may be considered Town Run). This fun, fast, windy loop has a few obstacles to keep things entertaining; one of them is the river, which sometimes inundates the flood plain and forces trail closures.

The Town Run Trail offers a dynamic mountain biking experience, weaving through wooded floodplains and open meadows alongside the White River. You'll find a mix of flowy sections and more technical challenges, including log overs and rock gardens, with the notable "Tetanus Hill" adding a fun, short climb or descent. This easy 6.6-mile (10.5 km) route, with only 69 feet (21 metres) of elevation gain, typically takes about 50 minutes to complete, making it ideal for a quick and engaging ride.

Before you go, be aware that the trail has a one-way directional flow that alternates daily; clear signage at the Town Run & Talking Tree Trailhead will indicate the day's direction. There are no permits or fees required, but the trail can experience high traffic on nice days. It's also prone to frequent closures during wet seasons due to its floodplain location, so always check conditions before heading out.

This trail holds a special place as Indianapolis's first official mountain bike park, managed by Indy Parks since 1999. Its varied terrain caters to both beginner and intermediate riders, offering a fast and flowing ride with intermittent challenging moments. The Hoosier Mountain Bike Association's volunteers are crucial to its maintenance, ensuring a well-kept experience for everyone.
