The monks’ garden changes every year and includes almost 400 species and varieties of medicinal and aromatic plants, spices and colouring plants (used in the manufacture of dyes). They come from all regions and medicinal practices from all over the world. In this area, located behind the old abbey kitchen, small buildings would have housed wood and farm animals. In the past it was also called the ‘chicken garden’.
