Studbooks, ear tags, identification and registration did not yet exist. It is plausible that the Lakenvelder is a Dutch breed. The Lakenvelder is a centuries-old breed. Lakenvelders are already mentioned in the Netherlands in the form of a description in the 12th century. The earliest known image is a painting from around 1450.
