The 32 m high monument to the victims of the First World War was inaugurated in 1928 and is one of the largest monuments in France. It is incorporated directly into the Colline du Château. The urn, housed in a vaulted niche, contains 3665 names of the dead of Nice during the First World War. The monument consists of two high reliefs by the sculptor Alfred Janniot: the left thematizes war and the right one peace. The five steps below the monument symbolize the five war years.

Built under the Cradle of Nizza in 1928, this building was erected in the former quarries of the Schlossberg to honor the 4,000 citizens of Nice who lost their lives during the First World War (1914-1918) and to pay tribute to their memory and calm. A sharp contrast to the savoir-vivre of the Boulevard Anglais, which starts just around the corner - yet (or perhaps for that reason) one of the places one should have seen in Nice.

An imposing memorial nestled in the rock of the hill of "Château de Nice", which marks the boundary between the wharf of the United States to the west and the port of Nice to the east, a point of view also on the splendid Cape of Nice.
