Between 1874 and 1875 the church was built in the neo-Gothic style. The oldest piece of equipment is a Rococo figure of the Queen of Heaven. The pilgrimage to Biwind was established by Johann Georg Mittnacht, who was miraculously rescued from captivity as a soldier in the Turkish wars. The previous building was erected in 1708.
