Architect Radu Mihăilescu explains that when implementing this project, he asked himself what meaning he should give the fountain. Based on the fact that several ethnic groups live harmoniously together in Timișoara, he considered inscribing each side with several first names. To connect these names as closely as possible with the city, he randomly selected Romanian, Hungarian, German, and Serbian first names from the 1990s telephone directory. The work's name, "The Town Twinning Fountain," expresses this long-standing reality of the Banat region and also commemorates the town twinning agreement between Timișoara and Karlsruhe, Germany, which was signed in 1992.
