The St. George's Chapel in Gardelegen was first documented in 1362 and was originally part of a hospital for infectious diseases outside the town fortifications.
In 1734 it was renovated and extended, with the original steeple being replaced by a massive tower with a baroque dome. An earlier carved altar from the 16th century depicting Anna Selbdritt was later transferred to St. Nicholas' Church. After 1990, the chapel was converted for exhibitions and today houses a model of the town of Gardelegen around 1600. It also serves as a venue for cultural events such as concerts.
