In which city do people walk on a leash? The answer has got around in the meantime - in Hanover. Goettingen would be less known, but also correct, because the river flows from the southeasternmost tip of Lower Saxony through half the country to the confluence with the Aller.
The leash is in no hurry on its 281 kilometer journey. It meanders in countless twists through diverse landscapes, from Eichsfeld and the Leinebergland to the Lüneburg Heath.

South of Hanover, it impresses with its riparian forest areas. Deadwood remains in the area of the banks as long as it does not impede water drainage. Different flow velocities on impact and slide slopes create water turbulence and dynamics in the river.
