Hiking

Leonrodplatz was created at the beginning of the 17th century. The Prince-Bishop of Eichstätt, Johann Christoph von Westerstetten, called the Catholic Jesuit order to Eichstätt to promote the Counter-Reformation. Due to the lack of space for the Jesuits to settle within the city walls, it was decided to demolish some of the houses. The Jesuit church and college were built to the east of the cathedral district. The ring of the city wall was breached for this purpose.
