"The figures on the gateposts represent atlantes (two figures of Atlas) and were originally located on a building adjacent to Liverpool Town Hall which stood from 1861-1928. When the building was demolished, the statues which were carved by Edwin Stirling, were rescued and relocated to the Harthill entrance to Calderstones Park."
