Diffwys Summit

Hiking

5.0

(12)

Standing at the southern end of the rugged Rhinogs range in Wales’ tremendous Snowdonia National Park, Diffwys makes for a charming adventure with outstanding views. It reaches 2,460 feet (750 m) and rises above Barmouth and the Mawddach estuary so that sea, estuary, coast and mountains all form part of the 360-degree panorama.

Diffwys’ north side is craggy with jagged cwms and steep trails. The south is an easier direction to ascend from, but it’s certainly not boring. If you come via Rhinog Fach to the north, you can enjoy a fantastic ridgewalk between the two, and include the flat-topped Y Llethr. The north, west and south all feature good starting points for ascents on Diffwys.

A stone wall traverses the ridge between Rhinog Fach, Y Llethr and Diffwys, which can be useful to follow in places but care should still be taken in poor visibility as there are steep drops.

Diffwys Summit Cairn. Great views of the estuary and out to sea.

    Hiking

Though not very high, Diffwys is a trig pointed summit on the tail end of the Rhinogs and it commands outstanding views. This is especially so on a blue sky day like today.
