The Nikolaikirche is the largest church in Flensburg. The Gothic hall church was built from 1390, the church tower from 1582 and after a fire in 1878 again.
The tower is 90 meters high and carries 17 bells. Around 1526, the first Lutheran sermon was held in the previously Catholic church.
Outstanding artwork of St. Nikolai is the beautiful double organ on the Sängerempore with its 5000 pipes. The organ work in its current version was made by Arp Schnitger around 1707/09.
