With its enormous height of 47 meters, the shot tower is one of the most striking medieval defense towers in the city. However, the tower was originally much lower. It only reached its current height in 1825, when a merchant from Tangermünde set up a shot foundry in the tower. Liquid lead was dropped from a great height into a tub of water. The shot pellets produced in this way were given the perfect spherical shape using this method.
