On June 18, 1940, at the request of General De Gaulle, the 115 students from the pilot schools in Le Mans and Vannes went to England on the lobster boat "Le Trébouliste", captained by François Lelguen.
They formed the backbone of the units of the Free French Air Force and 35 of them disappeared on the Field of Honor.
Lieutenant Pinot led them in an exemplary manner under difficult conditions.
For his outstanding services, he was named Companion of the Libération.
