The Giro del Monviso: Pian del Re Lakes Loop invites you on a moderate hiking adventure through the Italian Alps. You will cover 5.4 miles (8.6 km) with an elevation gain of 1725 feet (526 metres), typically taking around 3 hours and 50 minutes to complete. Along the way, you will discover crystal-clear glacial lakes like Lake Fiorenza and Lake Chiaretto, which often reflect the imposing Monviso peak. Expect to hike through alpine meadows and past unique peat bogs, immersing yourself in the high-altitude scenery.
Planning your visit is best during the summer months, from June to September, when the snow has largely melted. Parking is generally available at Pian del Re, which also hosts Rifugio Pian del Re for refreshments. Be aware that snowfield crossings can still occur at higher altitudes in early summer, so bringing hiking poles might be useful for stability. Always check local conditions before you head out to ensure a pleasant and safe experience on the route.
