    Hiking

One should not be fooled by the brevity of the trail. About just over a kilometer you climb 200 meters and this is associated with a lot of rock climbing. Anyone who is afraid of heights or afraid of being outlawed should take a lot of time here.

At the end of the violent climb, a breathtaking view of the Sedona plain and the surrounding Red Rocks awaits you. Warning: it can be extremely windy here!

Embark on the Cathedral Rock Trail, a moderate hike that takes you through the stunning red rock landscape of Sedona. This route is 1.2 miles (2.0 km) long and involves a climb of 596 feet (182 metres), typically completed in about 1 hour and 4 minutes. You will encounter steep sections and some rock scrambling as you ascend, leading to unique terrain. The experience culminates at the saddle viewpoint, nestled between Cathedral Rock's two main spires, where you are rewarded with incredible 360-degree panoramic views of the surrounding area, including distant sights of Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte.

Planning your visit to Cathedral Rock Trail requires some foresight, especially regarding parking. The trailhead parking lot is quite small and often fills up early in the day because of the trail's popularity. You might need to use the Sedona Shuttle to reach the trailhead, or you could consider starting from alternate access points. Trails like Baldwin or Templeton connect to this route, offering a potentially quieter experience, though they will add extra mileage to your hike.

This trail is a prime example of the dramatic geological formations found within the Coconino National Forest. The striking red rock spires and buttes are a result of ancient sandstone layers eroded over millions of years, creating a truly distinctive environment. It is a popular destination for those seeking to immerse themselves in Sedona's iconic scenery and experience its unique natural beauty firsthand.
