The Lake Overholser Loop offers a wonderfully smooth and flat jogging experience, perfect for those who appreciate consistent terrain and serene water views. As you navigate the 7.9-mile (12.8 km) route, you'll be treated to expansive vistas of Lake Overholser, with the path often lined by a mix of open areas and patches of woodland. Keep an eye out for various waterfowl and migratory birds, especially around the cattail marsh at the northern end, adding a natural touch to your run.
Planning your visit is straightforward, as the trail is freely accessible within Lake Overholser Park, where parking is readily available. This moderate loop, with its minimal 70 feet (21 metres) of elevation gain, takes about 1 hour and 19 minutes to complete, making it a great option for a quick, invigorating workout. Starting your jog early in the morning is a good idea, as some parts of the trail run alongside main roads, and leashed dogs are welcome to join you.
Beyond its natural beauty, the Lake Overholser Loop is rich in history, passing by the historic Lake Overholser Dam and the iconic Lake Overholser Bridge, which was once part of Route 66. This multi-use trail also connects to a broader system, linking up with the Hefner-Overholser Trail to the north and the Oklahoma River Trail to the south, offering extended exploration opportunities for runners and walkers alike.
