The old town hall on Maxplatz, one of the most striking points in the city center, was built in 1823. The trigger for the new town hall was the third Rehau town fire on September 6, 1817, which reduced the entire town to rubble and ashes. At that time, Rehau was rebuilt as a model town according to the plans of the Bavarian government.
Numerous concerts and cabaret evenings, as well as weddings and conferences, take place in the ballroom in the old town hall.

The carillon in the Old Town Hall on Maxplatz has been around for around 30 years and is very popular with both visitors and citizens.
Due to this long period of use, it was time to renew the carillon computer in 2022. A new carillon computer was purchased, which also enables contemporary programming of the songs. As before, the repertoire of songs includes a wide range of well-known and popular folk songs, hymns, homeland songs, songs appropriate to the seasons, as well as melodies for the Christmas season. Some new melodies are now also expanding the carillon's inventory.
