De Escape is a cycling team like any other with a sports director, team doctor, caregiver, a technical team and a support vehicle. Only the 72 riders are different. They are a life-size reproduction of the naive, plastic toy cyclists that came in four colors with a drum of washing powder. Artist Erik Nagels, also a cycling enthusiast, gave these reproductions a second life. These rider reproductions of 72 polyester 'flandriens' took part in the Flemish spring races in 2013 and promote Flanders as a cycling country at home and abroad.
