This 161-acre park, named for George Tibbetts, a Briton who settled the land in 1668, was one of the first parks in the area and has been around since 1927. The park includes a nice lake with a paved trail looping around it. You'll most likely see some ducks or other birds enjoying the water as well.

The South County Trailway offers a pleasant escape on a paved path, perfect for a relaxed outing. This moderate 10.6-mile (17.1 km) hike, with a gentle 338 feet (103 metres) of elevation gain, typically takes around 4 hours and 26 minutes to complete. You'll find yourself moving through a mix of quiet wooded areas, open parks, and along riverbanks, with notable spots like Tibbetts Brook Park providing a refreshing change of scenery. The trail's flat, well-maintained surface makes it an easy walk, suitable for all ages and fitness levels. It's a great option if you're looking for South County Trailway scenic viewpoints without a strenuous climb.

Planning your visit is simple, as there are numerous parking areas and access points along the route. The trail is quite popular, attracting hikers, runners, and cyclists, so you'll likely share the path. Dogs are welcome to join you, provided they are on a leash and you clean up after them. For convenience, you can find cafes and other amenities in towns like Elmsford and Ardsley, which the trail passes near. Consider visiting in the fall for spectacular autumn colors, or during summer for the shade provided by the abundant tree cover.

This trail holds a unique place in local history, built on the former New York and Putnam Railroad railbed, which operated until 1958. It's also a significant segment of the much larger Empire State Trail, connecting you to an extensive network for longer adventures. Look for historic marker plaques at former station spots along the way, offering glimpses into its past. The South County Trailway's origin as a rail trail means minimal elevation changes, making it an accessible and enjoyable experience for everyone.
