The Cresswell Pillbox is a unique example of WWII defensive structures. Unlike most pillboxes which were built for camouflage, this one was cleverly disguised as a ruined house. Constructed in 1940 as part of Britain's anti-invasion efforts, the pillbox boasts stone walls and a collapsed chimney to blend seamlessly with the surrounding dunes. The hidden loopholes behind false windows and doors allowed soldiers to fire upon approaching enemies, while a blast wall provided vital protection from explosions. This thoughtfully designed pillbox stands proudly today, a testament to the ingenuity employed during wartime.
