A castle site standing on steep rocks, which is also extremely difficult to access from the mountain side. It has a base area of 12 x 12 m.
Dendrological investigations have shown that the castle was built around 1100 and is therefore one of the oldest verifiable castle sites in the Danube valley.
Unterfalkenstein is therefore the predecessor of the upper Falkenstein Castle.
