Anyone passing by the Bergopstraat in Heist-op-den-Berg cannot miss it: a large monument on the side of the road. The tribute arch was placed there in 1920 to commemorate the victims of the First World War.

The arch is certainly not a war memorial of WWI, according to the Heemkring. “The arch was intended as a panoramic frame, from which people had a beautiful view of the surroundings. Unfortunately, a grown tree behind this arch now blocks the view.
