Hiking

The stone is situated at the Victoria Embankment entrance to the park. The stone is a 12 ton glacial erratic of pink Shap Granite. It was pulled from the river with chains by a steam powered traction engine, driven by Danby Jemmeson, and loaded into a truck. It took 8 men 4 days to move it to Darlington. As they entered South Park, it fell off the truck, and was placed where it fell.
