The idea of installing a fountain sculpture on the Doubs had been around since 1976, but it was not put into practice until 2001. The Minotaur was designed and created by the German sculptor Jens Boettcher, who taught at the ISBA in Besançon from 1975 to 2001. The fountain usually comes into action every 20 minutes from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The monumental fountain, which has been anchored at the foot of the Pont Robert Schwint since 2001 and is seven meters high and cast from eight tons of bronze, is the work of the artist - Jens Boettcher. On flood days the statue appears to float on the Doubs. The water shoots out intermittently from the Minotaur's head.
